Until recently, Korea's scientific community has been hesitant to engage with the creationists, fearing that doing so might boost the credibility of the group. However, silence is no any longer an option.

What is Evolution?

Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origin of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it requires a miracle, and that the founders of modern science rejected miracles out of fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation. They consider their views to be "theistic evolution.” This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." In this theory, God creates the original species and allows them to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species that are similar to the original.

What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this effort. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an bird, the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research as well as on human evolution too.
STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its goal, it says is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of trainee biology teachers revealed that a majority do not believe in the concept of evolution. The reasons for this are not clear however, they could be related to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR accomplished a number of things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. This led to an interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six foreign lecturers, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to an audience of several thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
